Devon Railway Timeline

  • The GWR railway opened to Exeter St. Davids on 1st May 1844.
  • Tiverton on 12th June 1848.
  • The South Devon Railway opened to Teignmouth at Whitsun 30th May 1846. 1500 people in 21 coaches caught the first train from St Thomas Station in Exeter.
  • The railway opened to Newton 30th December 1846.
  • Totnes 20th July 1847.
  • Totnes to Plymouth opened 5th May 1848.
  • Torre 18th December 1848.
  • Torre to Paignton opened 2nd August 1859.
  • Churston 14th March 1861.
  • Kingswear 16th August 1864.
