Pram and pram in use in Tiverton

Perambulators, or prams, did not appear until about 1850. At first they looked like miniature bath chairs in which the child sat. The pram was a status symbol for the nanny who looked after the children in richer families, because they were expensive.

This pram is made from wood and leather and was used in about 1880.
