The first carpet sweeper was invented in 1876 by Melville Bissell of Michigan. The English equivalent was manufactured by Entwistle and Kenyon at their Ewbank Works, Accrington in 1889. This made cleaning much easier and, unlike sweeping with a brush, did not scatter the dust everywhere. |
