Photometer and photo of Angel Hill, Tiverton

This is a photometers. It is used for testing the quality of the gas in the gasworks. It dates from 1822 to 1895, when the first Gas Works in the town were located within the Heathcoat Factory.

Gas light was used to light the streets of Tiverton in 1832.

In 1860 gas lighting replaced candles in Tiverton Town Hall.
