Gentleman Croquet Set and Croquet Player

The Victorians loved playing and watching sport. The rules of many sports, including football, tennis, golf and rugby were standardised, and National Associations formed. Modern corquet, introduced in 1857, was played by wealthier people. In the 1860s you could even buy special croquet clothes.
