Scrapbook
Sticking scraps into special scrap albums was a popular Victorian pastime.

There were scraps on hundreds of different subjects, flowers, birds and animals, children playing, people in foreign costume, royal relief scraps and Christmas scenes. By the end of the 19th century the development of colour printing, and die-cut and embossing techniques, produced beautiful scraps in wonderful colours.

Children and adults made scrap albums, sticking each scrap with glue from a huge pot.

These scraps are from a scrapbook in the museum that was made by an adult from about 1870 onwards. It also includes Christmas and birthday cards and hand written poems.
