Flush Toilet

The flush toilet was a major step forward in public health. This toilet is flushed by using the handle on the side of the bowl. Pulling up the handle creates a vacuum which draws water into the bowl by siphoning. Modern toilets are based on Daneil Bostel's subsequent 1889 invention, which used a ballcock valve system to refill the flushing cistern
